Today I read on cnn news that An explosion occurred Wednesday aboard a Japanese oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz near Oman, according to the U.S. Fifth Fleet and Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. The Japanese ministry said one person was injured aboard the vessel M. Star, but the U.S. Fifth Fleet, based in Bahrain, said in a statement that no injuries were reported by the ship's master. Also that the tanker's owner and operator, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd., said the explosion could have resulted from an attack, as a crew member saw light above the horizon, the ministry said in a statement. However, the Fifth Fleet said the cause of the blast was unknown. Because of its location, the Japanese ministry statement said, the explosion was unlikely to have been caused by oil on the tanker.

Today I read that the French police are searching the home of the daughter of L'Oreal heiress Liliane Bettencourt, a spokeswoman from the prosecutor's office in the Paris suburb of Nature told CNN Wednesday. Bettencourt's daughter, Francoise Bettencourt-Meyers, went to court last month accusing a photographer of bilking her mother out of a billion euros. Bettencourt, who is France's richest woman, allegedly gave the money to the photographer, but her daughter says she is not mentally competent to handle her own affairs. At the same time, police are investigating claims that Bettencourt's adviser gave envelopes of cash to French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Labor Minister Eric Woerth.Police questioned Liliane Bettencourt on Monday. It was unclear whether the search at her daughter's home and the questioning of Liliane Bettencourt were related, or to what case the search was tied.

Today I read that The United States and South Korea on Wednesday had a plan to end their joint military exercises aimed at warning North Korea to stop acts of aggression. The military exercises, dubbed Invincible Spirit, are in waters off South Korea. They include 8,000 personnel, 20 ships and submarines, and about 200 aircraft, officials said. Also U.S. Defense Department officials said the drills are in response to the March sinking of the South Korean warship, Cheonan, which killed 46 South Korean sailors. South Korea has said that an investigation concluded that a North Korean submarine fired a torpedo that sunk the South Korea warship, an assertion the North has denied.

Today I read that in Japan they convicted killers on Wednesday -- the first execution in the country since the Democratic Party of Japan took power last September. One of the men, Kazuo Shinozawa, was put to death for killing six female clerks at a jewelry stone in 2000 and setting the store on fire. The other person, Hidenori Ogata, was convicted of killing two people in 2003, the justice ministry said. Japan last carried out an execution in July 2009 when the conservative Liberal Democratic Party was in power. Also that Justice Minister Keiko Chiba is a former member of a group of lawmakers opposed to capital punishment the Japan Parliamentary League against the Death Penalty.

Today i read on cnn news that the Child witchcraft allegations are being increased in certain parts of Africa, as thousands of the children in Africa have been attacked, beaten or killed, according to a new report. The accused children are mostly boys, ages 8 – 14 orphans, street children, albinos, and disabled as the most at risk, said The United Nations Children Fund in its report. The accused children often suffer from physical or psychological violence as a result of being branded a "child witch," said on “CNN news”. Exorcisms that include pouring petrol into their eyes or ears, and forcing them to swallow any substances have been reported by researchers as ways to the accused. The agency cites urbanization, poverty, conflict and the growing economic burden of raising children as some of the factors that contribute to the recent increase in accusations against already vulnerable children.
